What We Do
Since 2001, we've focused on building and strengthening healthy relationships and connecting to various community partners. Our dedication extends to working with youth, adults, victims, and communities affected by crime. In recent years, we've ventured beyond the confines of the criminal justice system, exploring proactive applications of a restorative approach. Through partnerships with schools and various community groups, we've strived to implement restorative practices in diverse settings.

For Victims
An impacted party is an individual or corporate entity impacted by a physical harm, emotional harm or economical loss as the result of a crime.
RJ is grounded in the recognition that crime causes harm to both individuals and communities. Providing a path to justice in a forward focused way to support victims and their individualized needs is important while ensuring respect, safety and voice.
Our aim is to empower and support victims as they navigate their choices in restorative processes.

For Youth (12-17)
Since 2001, we have worked with youth between the ages of 12 and 17 who have been in conflict with the law who are willing to explore taking responsibility for their actions. Identifying and addressing issues, harms and needs of those involved help develop plans for the future.
RJ processes bring together people who are connected to an offence- those who have been affected, those responsible for what happened and those who can support a good outcome- to consider the contexts, causes and circumstances of a crime, and to identify needs, address the harm caused, and move forward in a better way.

For Adults (18+)
Since 2016, our dedication extended to working with adults and partnering with local supports and resources. Our collaborative efforts empower accountability, reconciliation, and community engagement.
Adult RJ processes bring together those who have been affected, those responsible for what happened, and those who can support a good outcome. We consider the contexts, causes and circumstances of a crime, and identify needs, address harm causes and move forward in a better way.

For the Community
Community involvement is pivotal in addressing harm, creating safer neighborhoods, and supporting positive changes. We engage actively with the community, nurturing accountability, connections, and safer environments.
Supporting our Schools
We support our local schools and Schools Plus partners to strengthen relationships, improve environments and transform conflict resolution within schools, fostering accountability and a sense of community among students and staff.
Our Restorative Reach
Recognizing the importance of relationships and engaging with the community in meaningful ways will support building a human-centered approach. Being relationship-focused, encourages us to think about how we treat one another and how we connect as humans. Sometimes, just small changes and Innovative solutions can benefit community places and spaces such as businesses, institutions and organizations. Together, we can foster empathetic and healthier environments.
Principles and Goals
We are committed to a restorative approach to justice grounded in the principles, which guide the development, governance and implementation of the Nova Scotia Restorative Justice Program (NSRJP)
